unspoken word

anxiously i stood waiting to order
you dropped your words on the bar counter and
i turned with intent of picking them up
giving them back to you
with some short sharp remark
but i wasn’t prepared for your eyes to be
quite that shade of sky blue…

paralysed slightly, my claws i withdrew
and very unexpectedly began purring in your direction
(did i really pretend to like the fact you were american?!?)
because suddenly anything you said sounded sweet
which maybe threw you too i think
i may or may not have remembered to order my drink

and before i knew it my friend was there
and your friend was there
and that girl i vaguely knew was there

but by this point i couldn’t care less because
with you i’d decided i wanted to undresss
and you were unknowingly serving yourself up to me
my mind a platter of sexual possibilities

and-you-had-no say-in the matter…

and when it came down to it

it would be an understatement
to call me *direct*
but then again, in my defense
you certainly
didn’t
object…

when it happened
it was like being devoured suddenly
clothes peeled off like a foil wrapper
and I melted in his mouth like candy….

reading was one of his greatest passions he said
our interaction was novel to me
I found myself easily read by him
although the translation I must admit
may have done some disservice to the original text
and certainly the nuances were lost
the cover had also changed somewhat
and being newly published here
there were no snappy reviewer one liners on the bookjacket

but if he had ever asked I could have told him
that many who had read it previously
had found it hard to put down
there were occasions of being held overdue
some felt that it held more meaning over time
with subsequent re-readings
and it was rarely on the shelf for long.

he was a pseudo scholar of sorts
so I assumed that perhaps
he might have the inclination
to take his time with the prose
but there were no deliberations
over what one line or another meant
instead he made a great show of
reading the introduction.
Before rushing along to the end..
